Chicken Avacado Wraps and Fresh Pasta alla Checca

So, we haven’t checked in for a few days (if you didn’t notice, you may want to sign up for email notifications when we post on our main page: https://healthyprofessionals.wordpress.com) 🙂, but we have been sticking to our diets. Workouts have been a bit spotty – but whatever. Hopefully, we’ll get a workout in later today…

In the last few days, there’s lots of things that have helped us keep to our diets including Subway and various snacks, but here are two of the most memorable dishes we cooked at home:

Pasta all Checca (pronounced “Kecka”) is a classic Italian dish that features fresh tomatoes simmered in olive oil. I like to throw a few pepperoncinis in there while it’s simmering! 😉

Plated Pasta all Checca. Amazingly, we were able to eat more sauce for less calories than jarred sauce! If I remember correctly, our pasta dinners came in well under 500 calories!

Small Amount of Pasta – (said as Rainman guy)

Yesterday, Lisa and I both ran a quarter mile again and did our normal workout. Also, we consumed less that 1500 calories each – Lisa with 1365 and me with 1480 calories – staying within our goals. A “small amount of pasta” for dinner really helped us stay within our diet yesterday.

First of all, I could write you pages about how to make the most delicious and decadent plate of pasta. However, that’s not what this is. This is an easy way to enjoy pasta for only 580 calories. IT’S SIMPLE! 2 exact servings of wheat pasta, 2 exact servings of the lowest-calorie, jarred sauce that you can find. Pass GO and COLLECT $200!

A good tip is to use garlic salt, crushed red peppers, and black pepper on your pasta instead of Parmesan cheese! 😉

Italian Food and Italian Food and Italian Food and Italian Food and Italian Food

Yeah, that’s right. Italian food.

Lisa and I are staying at my parent’s house right now, and, as a result, are eating loads of Italian food!!!

While I haven’t been eating “diet food” or counting my calories, I do seem to have put a stop to the rapid weight gain I was experiencing a week or two ago – even while eating Italian food for every meal. I think this is due to the fact that we haven’t been eating fast food as much. While home-cooked, Italian food is generally high in carbohydrates and calories, it’s obviously not as bad as they crazy crap that they put in fast food.

I’m starting to think it might be a good time to start exercising more. My weight seems to be pretty steady, and the roads over here are great for skating on. I think I’m going to have to bust out my longboard and do a little skating every day. That’s how Rocky got in shape, right?

Day 40 – Classico Roasted Red Pepper Alfredo Sauce

We had pasta again. It’s one of the few foods where we don’t feel like we’re being ripped off for the amount of food we get for our calories, so it’s become pretty popular around our house lately. We found another sauce that’s only 60 calories per serving, and that’s Classico’s Roasted Red Pepper Alfredo. Cream sauce with roasted red peppers in it is really tasty and a nice change from regular cream sauce, so we’re really glad we found this one!

Day 37 – Pasta and Kung Fu Panda

We had pasta for dinner with veggies. Wheat pasta with low-calorie sauce and vegetables is always a good diet meal nowadays. Hopefully, we don’t get too sick of it, but how could you get sick of pasta? Later, we went to see Kung Fu Panda 2 in 3D. It was great! We managed to get away with just sharing some sour patch kids and a huge diet coke.

Day 31 – EA Active and Creamy Red Sauce

Finally woke up and managed to do an EA Active workout today. That plus dogwalks put both of us over 2000 steps before 7am! This should make it pretty easy to get 10,000 steps today. Hopefully, after today, Brian will have a negative cumulative calorie intake on the Calorie Scoreboard.

Mixed 4 servings of Classico Light Cream Sauce with 1 serving of Classico Roasted Garlic Sauce. It was really good. For some reason, Classico’s normal line of sauces seems to have less calories than most, more expensive organic and diet sauces.

Day 29: Healthy Pasta and Wii-Fit Weigh In

Today we enjoyed 2 servings of whole grain pasta with Classico Roasted Garlic Sauce. We wanted to add some ground beef but found that one 4 oz serving of 80/20 ground beef has 270 calories. While this is some of the saddest news we learned (I mean really who doesn’t like pasta with meatballs), we did feel it was important to share. We suggest adding  some vegetables to your sauce, and find this works particularly well with the Classico Light Cream Sauce.

Last night when we were tempted to munch-out we thought it would be a good idea to weigh-in, instead. Despite what our calorie tracker is saying, the Wii Fit says Brian has lost 2.2 lbs. and Lisa has lost 1.8 lbs.!!! While we were still tempted to snack out, we somehow managed to restrain.
