Chicken Avacado Wraps and Fresh Pasta alla Checca

So, we haven’t checked in for a few days (if you didn’t notice, you may want to sign up for email notifications when we post on our main page: https://healthyprofessionals.wordpress.com) 🙂, but we have been sticking to our diets. Workouts have been a bit spotty – but whatever. Hopefully, we’ll get a workout in later today…

In the last few days, there’s lots of things that have helped us keep to our diets including Subway and various snacks, but here are two of the most memorable dishes we cooked at home:

Pasta all Checca (pronounced “Kecka”) is a classic Italian dish that features fresh tomatoes simmered in olive oil. I like to throw a few pepperoncinis in there while it’s simmering! 😉

Plated Pasta all Checca. Amazingly, we were able to eat more sauce for less calories than jarred sauce! If I remember correctly, our pasta dinners came in well under 500 calories!

Lisa checking out our delicious Chicken Avacado Wraps with tomatoes and onions! We put a serving of BBQ sauce on top too. 😉

Subway Saves The Day

😦 Lisa and I were really feeling hungry yesterday. It’s getting to the point where we can really feel our stomachs eating themselves. We both did our regular workout plus quarter-mile run. I found that the pain from our ab workout was the only thing that could distract from the pangs of hunger! So, when it came to dinner, Subway really saved the day! I was able to have a nice, foot-long chicken sandwich for only 740 calories, and Lisa’s 6-inch, chicken sandwich with chips was only 680 calories – putting us at the daily totals of 1475 and 1345 calories, respectively.

Birds Eye Beef Lo Mein

Day three and still going strong. We both did our workout, ran a quarter mile, and came in well below our 1500 calorie goal. Lisa with 1305 calories and myself with 1365! It wasn’t as bad as it sounds, because we really spaced our snacks out throughout the day and had a sensible dinner… Birds Eye “Viola” Beef Lo Mein!!! Not too shabby for frozen, and at only 345 calories for each of us, it allowed us to snack-out on some really nice “Pizza Wraps” and “Parmesan Popcorn”!

This bag at 690 calories for 3 servings works well for a light dinner!

Small Amount of Pasta – (said as Rainman guy)

Yesterday, Lisa and I both ran a quarter mile again and did our normal workout. Also, we consumed less that 1500 calories each – Lisa with 1365 and me with 1480 calories – staying within our goals. A “small amount of pasta” for dinner really helped us stay within our diet yesterday.

First of all, I could write you pages about how to make the most delicious and decadent plate of pasta. However, that’s not what this is. This is an easy way to enjoy pasta for only 580 calories. IT’S SIMPLE! 2 exact servings of wheat pasta, 2 exact servings of the lowest-calorie, jarred sauce that you can find. Pass GO and COLLECT $200!

Ingredients

By using a food scale and a measuring cup, you can ensure that you’re eating just the right amount. 😉

A good tip is to use garlic salt, crushed red peppers, and black pepper on your pasta instead of Parmesan cheese! 😉

Ham and Swiss Lavash Wraps – Diet Month

Lisa and I have a big trip in about a month, so we’re back on a diet and counting calories again! We’re posting them here again, because it keeps us honest with our diets. 😉

Lisa had 1345 calories yesterday, and I had 1370 calories. We both also ran a quarter mile and did a 30 minute workout routine.

The highlight of yesterday was definitely our dinner – weighing in at only 585 calories – two Lavash Ham and Swiss Wraps garnished with pepperoncini’s and served with brown mustard!!!! – made all with ingredients found at Fresh and Easy! I’d spell out the recipe, but you can probably figure it out from the pictures! 😛

Fail-a-thon

Oh man, I’m getting really tired of reporting my diet fails here, so I’ll try to keep it short.

Basically, I’m starting to wonder if my life is too chaotic right now to be dieting. The answer, of course, is no. When your life is ACTUALLY chaotic; overeating is the least of your concerns.

When your life is TRULY chaotic - this is what you might look like.

That said, Wendy’s Deluxes with no ketchup or mayo (at 250 calories each) and Budweiser Selects (at 99 calories each) are on the menu for this evening. It’s a small compromise from Budweisers (at 145 calories each) with Baconators (at 660 calories each) and some large fries (at 530 calories each), but it’s something.

Del Taco Shame

The whole point of keeping this diet blog is to shame myself into losing weight, and that’s not going to work if I’m not accountable to this blog. So, here it goes…

Yesterday, I totally failed. First, with a bowl full of meatballs covered in Puttanesca sauce and Parmesan cheese. Then, on a trip to Del Taco where I had three soft tacos, two 40-ounce Bud Lights, and a carnitas burrito.

By the way, if you were wondering if Del Taco’s new carnitas burritos are any good; they’re awesome – especially considering that they’re only $5 for two! Obviously, it’s not the same quality of carnitas that you might find in an authentic taco shop, but they’re pretty great considering the price.

Hopefully, I’ll get get back on track today, but it’s not enough to just diet every other day. I should really be trying a little harder. Just because I had a bad day yesterday doesn’t mean that I get to put 5000 calories in my body! 😳

Asian Lunch and Blacking Out

I’m going to keep this short, because my head is throbbing. I wouldn’t even be writing this if I didn’t have a couple pictures to share with you.

Anyway, I was off to a good start on my diet yesterday with lunch. Trader Joe’s makes these great little soup bowls that you just add water to, so I was able to enjoy (Japanese) Miso soup with my Japanese Sencha.

This soup is a heck of a deal for $2, and a great lunch at only 220 calories!

Anyway, that’s the last meal that I remember eating yesterday. Lisa says I ate 5 taquitos and 2 mini pizzas putting me at a grand total of 2190 calories for the day – A DIET FAIL. The reason for this is that I got black out drunk last night! I don’t remember ANYTHING, so sorry to anyone I’ve offended! – I know there were a few last night. 😦 @Peter @thepurrfectcup @teashowlisa

I blame the shot glass I was using for this particular mishap. I was keeping track of all my shots (for diet purposes), and I had 8 – which usually isn’t black out territory for me? This morning (afternoon), I think I got to the bottom of this mystery. THE SHOT GLASS IS HUGE! I was only filling it to the first line on the bottom of the glass, but I should have been able to tell that even that wasn’t the standard jigger size. Plan on picking up a traditional shot glass soon. Sorry folks!

YIPES! "wodka" - *said with a Russian accent*

The FATTY Returns!!!

If you’re new to our blog, then you might wonder why it’s called Healthy Professionals. After all, most of the time there’s only one new post here every week – and it’s a video about tea?!

Well, the fact is, my wife and I originally started this blog as motivation to lose weight – seen here in “DAY 1 – Low-Carb Pizza, Mile Run, and Fatty Photos!!!” Since my wife is an accountant, and I’m a taxman; we thought that Healthy Professionals was an appropriate name for our blog. Perhaps other fat office workers around the world would even be motivated by us? 😛

We figured that we’d start by putting some embarrassing pictures on the internet so that there would be no turning back. We would have to lose weight or be eternally ashamed by the fact that our fatty pictures on the internet are how we actually look in real life.

Thankfully, I'm not currently THIS fat, but close.

For months, we blogged every day – listing our calories eaten, calories burned, recipes, items eaten, and it worked! Both Lisa and I got down to a weight that we were comfortable with. We didn’t follow through with our exercise plans after doing so, but mission accomplished nonetheless. The weight was gone.

Anyway, the point of this story is that I’m getting fat again. 😦 Lisa and I recently went through a really crazy move from our old apartment, and now we’re alternating between the empty homes of relatives due to a disagreement with our previous landlord. Unfortunately, I’ve been using all of the extra stress as an excuse to eat and drink whatever I want (mainly case after case of Bud Light). Well, it needs to stop, and I’m going to use this blog to lose weight just like we did the first time around. The only difference being that Lisa won’t be dieting with me this time, because she’s not a fatty like me right now! 🙂 So, expect to read more diet related blogs in you future! Day 1 – “Brian’s switches to vodka?” That sounds like a painless change to start with. 😉

this is you: “BUT WAIT, THEN HOW DID THE TEA SHOW COME TO BE?”

Since I’m a pretty talented cook, we had originally planned to post cooking videos here. However, I’m both the cameraman and the cook, and I can’t do both at once – so The Tea Show was born: “The Tea Show, Episode 1, Young Hyson Chinese Green”

DAY 88 – Our Last “Day”

Well, it’s about time that we stopped keeping track of the number of days that we’ve been on our diet, because we aren’t really dieting anymore. We both lost a good amount of weight – BRIAN LOST 30 LBS! LISA LOST 10 LBS! – but now we’re just trying to eat a healthy quantity of food and exercise more. When we were dieting, we didn’t have much energy to do anything. Now, we’ve been eating a little more, and it’s much easier to fit a workout into our day.

We’re not doing it anymore, but dieting for a while was good. Counting our calories really made us realize what a crazy amount of calories there are in some foods! There’s some places that we won’t even eat at anymore! In fact, if we’re eating fast food, it’s pretty much only between Del Taco’s regular tacos at 130 calories each or Wendy’s Jr. Cheeseburger Deluxe with no mayo or ketsup at 230 calories.

Another reason that we’re not going to be counting calories anymore is that LISA IS LOSING HER MIND! 😛 lol. Seriously, I’m very afraid that I’m going to be married to a skeleton in matter of months. In fact, I might just be stopping in at Dairy Queen before she gets home to get her a Blizzard! She’s skinnier than before we met!? Actually, I guess we both are! 😉

Anyway, as a result of all these changes, Healthy Professionals Food Blog will be changing a little. For the most part, we’re just going to be blogging awesome recipes and pictures of food – no more charts itemizing our food eaten, calories burned, steps taken, and so on. Also, no more calorie scoreboard. So, I guess LISA WINS on the calorie scoreboard!

So, expect more blogs featuring tasty pictures like the one below! It’s actually our dinner from last night. There was something called the California Grill Pack at Stater Bros, and it came with 2 marinated chicken thighs, 3 boneless country-style ribs, and 4 bratworst for $6.99! It was awesome with mac and cheese!

4 Bratworst; 3 Boneless, Country-Style Ribs; and 2 Marinated Chicken Thighs!

Oh yeah! You can also expect more puppy pictures!!!

The cone's not on him just because it's hilarious. He's actually got a "hot spot" on his arm, but he doesn't let his cone bother him!
