Day 28: Dining Out, Counting Steps, and Calorie Scoreboard

Lisa had to work late, so we decided to visit our favorite healthy dining location, Subway on Thursday. You can calclulate the number of calories in your favorite sandwhich (including veggies and conditments) at:

Friday we splurged again and went to Little Ceasear’s. Wings have 50 calories each and the regular cheese slices on a large have 223 calories a slice.

In other news, Lisa’s work is offering the Global Corporate Challenge to its employees. We formed teams and for the next 16 weeks we will be “stepping across the world.” The challenge begins in New Zeland, and we will periodically update you as we “march” across the world. Our goal is for each team member to take at least 10,000 steps per day!

In conjunction with the GCC, we received 2 pedometers. Brian and I will begin including our number of steps with the daily calorie chart. We also thought it would be neat to include the number of calories we are burning each day, so that we could tell if we are loosing, maintaining, or gaining weight.

A little research revealed that people burn between 300-500 calories for 10,000 steps. For our purposes, we will use 350 calories for 10,000 steps or 0.035 calories per step. Everyone burns calories just by breathing. Lastly, the “calorie scoreboard” takes into account any gains or losses from the previous day(s) to determine the calorie winner! Red numbers indicated negative loss (burned more than consumed) and black numbers indicate positive gains (burned less calories than consumed.)
